Direct to Film Printing

What is a DTF Transfer?

Direct to Film (DTF) transfer is an innovative printing technology that has gained traction in the custom apparel industry. This method involves printing designs onto a special film, which is then transferred onto fabric using heat and pressure. Yes, you will need a heat press to adhere DTF prints! The process utilizes high-quality inks that adhere well to various materials, making it a versatile option for creating vibrant and durable prints.

Why choose DTF?

DTF transfer is known for it's ability to produce high-resolution images with intricate details. The technology allows for a wide color gamut, enabling the reproduction of complex designs that may be challenging to achieve with traditional printing methods. Studies indicate that DTF prints can maintain their quality even after multiple washes, with a retention rate of up to 90% in color vibrancy and detail.

DTF transfer is particularly beneficial for small to medium-sized production runs. Unlike screen printing, which requires extensive setup and is more cost-effective for larger quantities, DTF allows for quick turnaround times and minimal setup costs. This flexibility makes it an ideal choice for custom apparel businesses looking to cater to specific customer demands without incurring significant overhead.

How DTF is created?

The application of DTF transfer is straightforward. First, the desired design is printed onto a special DTF film and printer. Once the design is printed, an adhesive powder is applied to the wet ink, which is then cured using heat. After curing, the film is ready for transfer.

How to use DTF?

To apply DTF place the film onto the fabric and apply heat and pressure using a heat press. Place the DTF transfer ink side down onto your garment.  Cover the transfer film with a teflon sheet and press the garment for 15 seconds at 320 degrees.  Let the film cool completely.  When cool peel the transfer film and disgard as waste  Cover the image with a cotton fabric such as a tea towel and press a second time at 320 degrees for 10 seconds.  This process ensures that the design adheres securely to the fabric, resulting in a professional finish.
